How to add Music to Instagram Story, 5 Guaranteed Ways.

Instagram stories with added music are captivating. If you know how to post on Instagram, You’ll know how to add music to Instagram story. Adding music to your Instagram story is a great way to make it unique and keep your followers/friends entertained.

There are so many ways you can add music to an Instagram story. You can add directly from Instagram, or select any music of your choice from your favourite music streaming platforms such as Spotify, SoundCloud, and Shazam, which all offer a music sharing feature that’s integrated with Instagram.

In this article, I will show you a step-by-step guide on how you can effortlessly add a soundtrack to your story that fits your current moment and also helps you express your inner feeling.

How to check if you can add music to an Instagram Story

Before I show you how to add music to your Instagram story, it makes sense to check if you can actually add music to your Instagram story.

1. First, open Instagram mobile app on your phone.

2. Tap the square icon with a plus sign   at the top of the Instagram App, and then at the bottom right corner of the app, click on Story.

3. Choose/create whatever story type you want (e.g. text, photo, or GIF), then tap the Sticker icon, it’s a square smiley face with the bottom right corner bent.

4. In the pop-up Sticker page, you can either search for Music using the search bar, or scroll down a bit until you see the Music Sticker.

5. If you can see music, then it means you can add music to your Instagram story directly from Instagram.

6. If you can’t find Music among the Sticker options, it means you currently can’t add a soundtrack to your story directly from Instagram. I will share the reasons later on in this article.

How to add Music From Instagram with the Music Sticker

1. First, open Instagram mobile app on your phone.

2. Tap the square icon with a plus sign   at the top of the Instagram app.

3. At the bottom right corner of the Instagram App, click on Story.

4. You can tap the snap icon to take a picture or hold it down to record a video, you could even create a text or any other type of story, apply filters and any special effect you want.

5. If you are happy with your story and ready to add a soundtrack, tap the Sticker icon, a square smiley face with the bottom right corner bent.

6. Tap Music on the sticker page, you can also search for it by typing Music in the search bar.

7. Next, on the Music page, you can use the search bar at the top of the screen to look for a tune of your choice. You can search the library by artist, song, or album.

8. You can also browse through the different music classifications in the Instagram music library. Tap the play button to hear a preview before adding it to your story too.

9. Once you’ve selected a soundtrack that fits your current moment, you can drag through the soundtrack to choose the exact part of the song that fits your story.

The Music you add can only be 15 seconds long.

10. Next, you can choose to show the music lyrics or a photo of the artist on your Instagram story if it’s available for the song.

11. Once you’re happy with the way it looks, click Done at the top right corner of the Instagram app.

12. Next, click send to at the bottom right corner, choose who you’d like to share your story with. If for any reason you don’t like the new story, simply delete it (learn how-to here), and create a new one.

How to Edit the Music Sticker in your Story

1. To edit the font of the soundtrack lyrics you’ve added, scroll and choose from the fonts just below the music lyrics.

2. If you want to edit the colour of the song lyrics on ig, simply keep tapping on the multicoloured circle at the top of the Music sticker screen until you get your choice colour.

3. You can edit which part of the song you want to play by dragging the music tab at the bottom of the music sticker screen.

4. It’s also possible to choose a song before capturing a video. To do this, open the camera, swipe to the new “Music ” option just under the record button.

Next, search for a song that fits your mood, select the exact part of the song you want by rewinding or fast-forwarding through the track. Record a video as the song plays in the background.

Your friends/followers will hear the song playing as they are viewing the photo video on your story, they’ll also see a sticker showing the song title and artist name

Can’t Add Music to Ig Story? Here’s why!

If you can’t add music to your Instagram story because the Music Sticker is unavailable, it possibly because of one of the following reasons;

1. Your Instagram app is out of date and needs to be updated. You can do this in your App store if you use an iPhone or the Google play store if you use an Android phone.

2. You’re trying to share a branded content campaign; unfortunately, music and features like emojis and stickers aren’t allowed on Instagram because of Instagram’s copyright laws and advertising policies.

3. You live in a country where the Music Sticker feature is not currently available, most likely because of Instagram’s strict adherence to copyright law.

However, if you don’t have the option to add music to your Instagram stories directly from Instagram through the Music Sticker, you can add music through your favourite music streaming platforms such as Spotify, SoundCloud, and Shazam, I’ll tell you how.

Please be aware that the song you add from these streaming platforms won’t play directly on your Story, when someone taps on your story they will be directed to the streaming service where they can play it.

How to Add Music From Spotify to your Instagram Story

1. Open Spotify App on your phone.

2. Search and select for the song you want to add to your Instagram story.

3. Click on the three vertical dots at the top-right corner of the screen.

4. Scroll to the bottom and click on the share tab.

5. You’ll get a pop-up, click on Instagram. Your selected song will appear with its cover art.

6. You can edit your story by adding text, stickers or other effects.

7. Once you’re done editing, tap on the story icon at the bottom left of the screen to post your story.

How to Add Music From SoundCloud to your Instagram Story

1 Open the SoundCloud App on your mobile phone.

2. Search and select for the song you want to add to your Instagram story.

3. Tap on the share icon, it should be at the bottom of the screen (a square with an open top, with an upward facing arrow).

4. You’ll get a pop-up, click on Share to Instagram stories, it will import your selected song to Instagram with its cover art.

5. Tap on Your Story button at the bottom-left of the screen to share your story.

How to Add a Song From Shazam to your Story

Shazam is a mobile app that recognises music and TV around you. It’s an app that can help you discover and share the music and TV.

1. Open the Shazam App on your mobile phone.

2. Let Shazam recognise the music you like playing near you.

3. When recognised, tap the song in Shazam.

4. Next, tap the more icon, then select Share.

5. Tap the option for Instagram stories to import the song and it’s artwork to Instagram App.

How to Add a Soundtrack from Apple Music to an Instagram Story

1. Open Apple Music on your Mobile phone.

2. Search for, and open the song you want to share on your Ig story.

3. Tap on the three horizontal dots on the screen and select the share option.

4. When you find Instagram, click on it to launch.

5. Click on Your Story button at the bottom of the screen to share your story.
