WhatsApp will drop Support for Older Phones Nov.1 – See Full List

It’s sad to hear that WhatsApp will drop support for older phones on the 1st of November 2021, although this is not surprising as this is done quite often by these tech giants. In fact, Google just blocked apps on old Android phones.

About this time last year, it was announced that WhatsApp will drop support for older phones starting January 1, 2021. WhatsApp became compatible with only phones running on a minimum of Android 4.0.3 Operating system as well as iPhones running on a minimum of iOS 9.

WhatsApp is extending its ban and now has a new minimum Operating Systems requirement, anyone looking to continue using WhatsApp on their mobile phone will need to update their Operating System before November 1, 2021.

From the 1st of November 2021, If you own an Android phone, WhatsApp will require your mobile phone to be running on Android 4.1 or later. If you own an iPhone, you will need to be on iOS 10 or later.

Most tech giants stop supporting older phones because of the tremendous security risk involved in using outdated software. It is also not cost-effective to keep apps running on old versions of mobile phone Operating Systems because of the small number of people still using these phones.

If you own a mobile phone that uses WhatsApp and you fail to update your Operating System by the 1st of November, WhatsApp will stop working on your mobile phone. You will not be able to send or receive messages or make voice or video calls to your family and friends.

Yeah, it’s sad that WhatsApp will drop support for older phones, and for some of these phones, it’s the end of the road as there is no Operating Systems update available. This move by WhatsApp will no doubt affect millions of mobile phones but for most of the mobile phones affected, you may be able to update your Operating system. So make sure you check before ditching your mobile phone.
